Padi AOW weekend at dutch for Jesse.

With last weekends OW class wrapped up and Allie and Joe doing awesome I am back at it at Dutch Springs this weekend teaching AOW.

It will be a long weekend of dives. Hanging out with kids in the aqua park and camping.

Remember sunday is the shops picnic so call lancaster scuba to rsvp and enjoy free food and a underwater treasure hunt.

Stay tuned for a post on the dives.

Travis’s Speciality Weekend

First off please excuse the typos. I am sitting here at 11:00 Pm in my tesnt on my tablet typing this post. The reas for this is that I keep saying I need to update my blog but time does not allow for it.

Today we had a later start then I wanted but that was because it was very busy here at Dutch Springs. We did three dives today for Travis who is visting us from Colorado while attending some of his Military training at a local PA base. todays dives included

– Dry Suit dive 2

– Wreck dive 2 and 3

All dives went amazingly well. The first dive was 20 minutes to wrap up his remainig skill requirements for drysuit. We surfaced with plenty of air that we headed back down after a 5 minute surface interval to map out the wreck of the Comet that sits at 55 to 60 feet here at Dutch. Once done we debriefed on both dives and discussed entry and exit points along the wreck along with good tie off locations and hazards to look for.

Travis’ s went on today to do two more dives with fellow LSC divers while Itook the time to site back and relax.

For tomorrow we have on our plate the following dives:

– Deep Dive for Elliott

– Nav dive 3 and Nav dive for Travis and Elliott

– Wreck dive 4 and Wreck for Travis and Elliott

It should be a fun time. For now it is time for bed.

Continue Education (DEEP, WRECK, DRY SUIT)

Continue Education (DEEP, WRECK, DRY SUIT)

As one of my good friends and fellow instructors says “A Good Diver is Always Learning” I completed three more specialties at the instructor level so I can expand my love of diving and experience to my students.  This past weekend under the guidance of our local Course Director Rich I completed Deep, Wreck and Dry Suit instructor specialties. With these complete I now have enough to go for my Master Scuba Diver Trainer once I have trained the 25 required students.

I completed these dives at Dutch Springs during the weekend of 9/28 -9/29. The visibility was over 40 feet in most areas. The water temp was still in the mid 60’s at depth and much warmer from 30 feet up. This means there is still plenty of time to get your certifications in before it gets too cold. So if you are interested in taking any of these classes call 717-397-2822 and ask to take a class with Michael LaSalvia. Or next times you see me ask to sign up and I will register you on the spot with the square app.

Classes offered:

  • PADI Open Water
  • PADI Advance Open Water

PADI Enriched Air Class 9/26/13

PADI Enriched Air Class

Want to thank my student Emily for attending my PADI Enriched Air Class. She was able to learn a lot and keep me on my toes. I had just recently obtained this certification at the instructor level and was anxious to actually teach it and apply what I learned and knew on the subject. The class went fairly smooth with a minor bump or two, difference in Table version and Computer version of the class. Once we got that settled we moved through.

Once again that you Emily for allowing me to teach you Enriched Air and being my first continue education certification.

Discover Scuba Diving 9/22

Today I had the opportunity to work with some of our free Discover Scuba Diving Raffle winners. These winners were chosen from the event that I setup at The Winery and Brewery at Hershey Merlot and Flash Gourd’n release party.

I want to say congratulations to:

  • Shawn
  • Rhonda
  • Erica
  • Kristin

You all did a great job. I look forward to working with you in the future as you continue your scuba diving adventures.

Thanks

Mike

Hunting Season Fix?

One of my other loves outside of diving is hunting. It gives me the opportunity to be outside harvesting my own food. It is a way for me to relax and get back to nature. Though at the end of every hunting season we hunters start to get an itch, we start pacing and waiting to the next season.  Though I have a solution for you that will allow you to hunt year round!

During the summer months I fill my itch by diving and spearfishing. I get to travel to warm clients with excellent visibility and huge fish.  Think about hovering a few feet from the ocean bottom almost like being in a tree stand watching a group of fish swimming by waiting for the shot at the monster in the group. The thrill of harvesting fresh fish doesn’t end there. You can also spend time on the bottom searching for and harvesting lobster, oysters, scallops, clams and mussels.

Do I have your attention yet? Are you saying that is all find and dandy but I am not a certified diver? Well don’t worry about not being a certified diver. All divers were not certified divers at some point. I can provide you scuba instruction by you calling Lancaster Scuba at 717-397-2822 and asking to take class with Michael LaSalvia. After your class we can work on additional training so you can be our next boat trip harvesting your own dinner in the water as you would in the forest.

Don’t worry for you certified divers that have never hunted before in the water we can work with you to provide instruction and guidance for your first spearfishing outing. Lancaster Scuba has a huge range of spear guns and monthly trips to North and South Carolina as well as New Jersey all areas great for under water hunting and harvesting.

The next underwater harvesting trip will be for oysters. The trip costs $70.00 per diver and the max depth is only 10 to 15 feet max. This is a great dive and good for newer divers who want to try their hands at harvesting / hunting fresh seafood. Call Lancaster Scuba to sign up for this trip. Remember if you like to fill your hunting itch and are not certified asked to take your open water certification with Michael LaSalvia.

Discover Scuba Diving 8/4/13

Today I had the opportunity to introduce Kayla and Angelique to their first underwater experience.  We started the class with completing the required PADI paper work and then completed the knowledge review before heading into the pool to go over skills and have fun. Both of them did wonderful and had huge smiles on their faces when the class was over. The only problem was they did not want to stop.

If you are interested in trying scuba diving call 717-397-2822 and tell them that you want to do a discover scuba with Michael LaSalvia.
